welcome!!!
allow me to reintroduce myself
If you are receiving this email, welcome to Sonically Saniyah!
I have been debating about making a newsletter for a few months now, and now that I have finally finished my freshman year of college, I decided “why not!”. I have also been using Medium a bit as well, but for more lengthy content. On here, I’ll be sharing commentary on hot topics or pop culture news, reviews on music (and hey maybe films!), and recommendations, whether that’s my current favorite songs/albums/movies/shows/books and everything else under the sun.
I am still currently thinking about what the first (official) topic should be (if you can’t tell, I am extremely indecisive and always have many ideas), but I do have some things drafted so stay tuned soon :)
For now, here’s some Suggestions by Saniyah
Shows: Abbott Elementary!!! I started the show late because it started airing when I was busy with classes and I am AWFUL at watching shows but I finally got to it a few months ago and I AM OBSESSED! (I have one more episode left to watch on Hulu as I am currently typing this.) It also got renewed for a new season this upcoming fall.
Albums: I am currently streaming the debut LP of Ravyn Lenae, Hypnos. Her lush vocals plus euphoric alternative-R&B sounds create an exceptional first album.
Songs: WHY. DO. ARTISTS. PRODUCE. THE. BEST. TRACKS. FOR. CHILDREN’S. FILMS?! This could be a newsletter topic one day because it’s mind-blowing. Regardless, for “Minions: The Rise of Gru”, the latest installment of the Despicable Me series, its Jack Antonoff-produced soundtrack already released its first song. “Turn Up the Sunshine” by Diana Ross and Tame Impala may sound like a duo created by Mad Libs, but with the former being a disco/funk diva and the latter’s psychedelic elements, they complement each other.
Closing out with wishing whoever is reading this a wonderful weekend! I will be spending mine hopefully catching up on some shows and staying indoors since the heat will be (unfortunately) kicking in.
